How to restore a Dreamlight Valley save backup

A cautious recovery checklist for selecting the right backup, preserving the current state and avoiding cloud overwrite conflicts.

Pause before replacing anything

Close the game and identify the exact player, platform and launcher you are recovering. Keep a separate copy of the current state, even if it appears broken. That copy may help support understand what happened and prevents a failed restore from destroying your last evidence.

Choose a backup you know belongs to the same player and record which game version it came from. An older save may lose progress made since that backup. Do not experiment with a different player’s data as a substitute.

Restore through a supported workflow

Use the compatible backup/restore workflow for the application and platform that created the backup. If you are restoring an accessible file manually, first confirm the correct active location and whether the backup represents one file or a complete save set. Do not apply generic file-replacement instructions to Xbox container storage.

Cloud sync can overwrite local recovery data or offer a local/cloud conflict choice. Read the platform’s prompt carefully and compare timestamps; do not repeatedly launch the game on multiple devices. If the choice is unclear, stop and ask support before confirming an overwrite.

Verify in game before continuing

Open the intended profile and check your player, recent progress and important collections. A successful file copy is not the same as a verified in-game recovery. Keep the original backup until you have checked normal gameplay and saved successfully.

If the restore fails, record the error, platform and steps already taken. Contact support with that information and keep both the pre-restore copy and the backup. Repeated edits can make the original problem harder to diagnose.
